Can I install and use DraftSight on more than one computer?

You can install DraftSight on any machine that meets the installation requirements.

Each software license enables one machine to be active at a time while the license is valid. To use DraftSight on more than one machine you should purchase and activate an additional license for each machine. You can transfer one license from one machine to another, but you will need to deactivate the license on the current machine before attempting to reactivate on a new machine and there are limits to how often you can do this.

How do I activate DraftSight?

Upon the first launch of DraftSight after a new installation, you will be walked through an Activation Wizard. You will need your serial number and internet access to activate. In addition to an instant and automatic activation, you may also choose the manual email activation. Once DraftSight is up and running, you can also click on “Activate DraftSight…” under the Help menu to launch the Activation Wizard.

Does DraftSight support Windows 7?

Microsoft will end the support for Windows 7 in January 2020.

Therefore, DraftSight 2020 will be the last release supporting Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit), Window 8.1 (32 and 64 bit) and Mac 10.12 (Sierra). Please upgrade your operating system if you plan to use DraftSight 2021 or future releases.

I’m a Mac or Linux user, can I use DraftSight?

DraftSight 2020 will support the latest Mac OS, Catalina.

The prior Linux Beta version concluded on January 1st, 2020. Meanwhile we have been working on a more flexible and scalable solution for customers, DraftSight Cloud.

How can I perform a clean re-installation of DraftSight on a Windows computer?

Please follow the steps below to perform a clean reinstallation of the DraftSight software.  It is advisable to Deactivate your DraftSight license from the DraftSight '?' menu before following these steps. 

The following steps should only be performed by a suitably qualified person to avoid causing problems on the PC. 

 

1.Login to Windows using an account that has Administrator rights.

2.Open the Windows ‘Control Panel’ App. To do this, type ‘Control Panel’ in the Search field in the Windows Task Bar.

How can I restore DraftSight to default Settings

Please follow these steps in order to return DraftSight to use the default settings:

 

1. Ensure that DraftSight is not running.

2. In Windows, open a File Explorer window and browse to this location: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming. If the AppData folder is not visible, it can be shown using the folder options in the File Explorer options :  View > Hidden Items

3. Locate the folder called ‘DraftSight’.

3. Select it with the mouse and then click the right mouse button and select ‘Rename’. Type a new folder name : DraftSight_old

4. Restart DraftSight.

The next time you launch DraftSight, it will generate fresh user settings.

How can I reset the DraftSight license information on an Apple Mac computer?

Please follow these steps to refresh the license information on the computer. It can resolve some activation problems. 

1) Ensure that DraftSight is not running.

Browse to this location where the DraftSight serial number information is stored:  ~/Library/Preferences/com.solidworks.licenses.serialnumbers.plist

2) Rename the above .plist file to "com.solidworks.licenses.serialnumbers.plist_old"

3) Start DraftSight again. It will prompt you to enter your serial number.

4) Follow the steps to reactivate your license.

How to restore DraftSight to default settings on an Apple Mac computer?

1) Make sure that DraftSight is not running.

 2) Navigate to location:  /Users/ [USERNAME]/Library/Preferences and rename the folder "DraftSight" to "DraftSight_old".

 3) Restart DraftSight.  

When DraftSight starts, new user settings will be created.

If you cannot locate the 'Preferences' folder, it might be hidden. To show the folder press keys Command+Shift+> on the location panel.

Why won't DraftSight launch using the Beta serial number for Apple Mac computers?

The beta program for DraftSight Mac version concluded on 31st Aug 2020.  That version of the software will no longer run and the serial number is no longer valid. .

In order to continue using DraftSight on Mac computers, please:

1. Purchase a license for DraftSight Mac from: www.DraftSight.com Be sure to select the option for the Mac version on the website.

What causes “Activation transaction failed. Activation count exceeded…3/0” when trying to activate my license?

This error occurs when the license is already active on another computer. You must follow the steps below to deactivate and release the license from that PC before it can be activated on another PC.

How do I transfer (deactivate) my DraftSight license from one Computer and install it on another?

Step 1:

Start DraftSight and click on Down Arrow beside Help ? at the top right of your DraftSight screen.
 

Step 2:

Click on Activate DraftSight and take note of your DraftSight Serial Number.  You will need this. Just click on cancel once you’ve got the details.
